By the way, I don't believe Paul is teaching believers to be thankful for everything that happens. He is, in my opinion, teaching us to be thankful in everything. Even when bad things happen, we can be thankful that He is with us and will guide us through whatever we are facing.
Let me illustrate: I am grateful to be an American, but I am not thankful for everything that happens in our nation! I am grateful our nation's founding forefathers made covenant with the Lord God, but I am not grateful for the unbiblical and unconstitutional direction that many in our nation have taken! When we celebrate Thanksgiving Day this month, let us remember and give thanks that our nation in its infancy was preserved when it looked like it would not survive.
An attitude of gratitude can shield us from our tendency to complain.
The gate of gratitude can open to us the awesome presence of our God who will yet deliver our nation again! Let me remind us that ingratitude is also a gate that leads us away from God. The downward spiral of ungodly living and behavior begins with dishonoring God and the failure to give thanks to Him (Romans 1:21).
The gates we walk through will determine the way we walk in life! No matter what is happening in our lives and in our nation, let us enter His gates with thanksgiving!
