Our fifty year absence in the public square left a vacuum that was increasingly filled by candidates from both political parties whose agenda ran contrary to the Word of God and the Constitution. I am stirred again by the words of the evangelist Charles Finney, the primary voice of the 2nd Great Awakening: "The Church must take right ground in politics. The time has come that Christians must vote for honest men (I would add women), and take consistent ground in politics or the Lord will curse them. God cannot sustain this free and blessed country, which we love and pray for, unless the Church will take the right ground. Politics are a part of religion, in such a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to their country as a part of their duty to God".
Let the followers of Christ go beyond being encouraged by the recent election; let's be reactivated in a new way to intercede and to fill the public square with His agenda!
Let's also be grateful this month not only for the hand of God in America's past, but for the wind of God in its future.
The winds of awakening and reformation are blowing again!
