While the army of Israel, led by King Saul, cowered before the giant Philistine, Goliath, David volunteered to face him in the valley of Elah. David reduced his challenge down to one question: "Is there not a cause?" (I Samuel 17:29 KJV). David knew the answer --- of course there was a cause!
Scholars point out the word, "cause," can also be translated "history." The Lord God had a record of fighting for His people when they walked in His covenantal purpose. He had given Gideon and the 300 a victory over the Midianites who greatly outnumbered his army. In the valley where the armies of Israel and the Philistines lined up for warfare, the size of Goliath alone put fear in Saul and Israel.
The eighth son of Jesse, a young shepherd, stepped forth in confidence. He also had a history --- he had earlier taken down a lion and a bear. Goliath would be taken down, too. Needing just one stone of his arsenal of five stones, Goliath is on the ground and momentarily he would lose his head! David was good with a sling shot, but you can't tell me that God didn't guide the "rock." In one Psalm, David referred to God as "the God of my rock." America has a history of challenges and crises, and we have come to another defining moment, a tipping point. May the Spirit upon David come upon all the followers of David's greater Son, the Lord Jesus Christ!
Your voice and mine are important. Our voices can release prophetic intercession, declarations, decrees and civic education concerning our nation's future. Our voices can become instruments of His voice --- Psalm 29.
It is disappointing that some followers of Christ, whose citizenship is in heaven (Phil. 3:20), fail to steward their earthly citizenship. Paul, the apostle, had citizenship in both heaven and earth. He had Roman citizenship. He used this benefit to win members of Caesar's household to Christ. Your vote and mine are needed on November 6!
Register soon if you are not registered to vote. October 9 is the deadline in Texas. Google to find the deadline in your state. Pastors, please strongly encourage the church you lead to vote!
