Isaiah 10:21-22 says: "a remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. For though your people, O Israel, may be like the sand of the sea, only a remnant within them will return..." The passage is clear that after Israel was invaded by Assyria and many were taken into captivity (722 BC), only a remnant of Israel would return back into the land.
Biblical examples of a remnant: Gideon's army was reduced to a remnant of 300 (Judges 7). David had 37 mighty men in his army and among them were three who represented a remnant taken from a remnant (II Samuel 23:22-23, 39). Jesus obviously began His ministry with a remnant of 12. Even if you mention the 500 who saw Him after His resurrection, that number is but a remnant of the entire nation in first century Israel.
In the American Church, there is a remnant that refuses to give up on the Church or the nation! They do not stop pursuing the agenda of the Kingdom of God in all spheres of life and culture. They are not multitudinous, but they are mighty. They are not afraid of the odds and they are not put off by the battles that must be fought in order to advance the purposes of God in this generation and in generations to come! They know their strength is not theirs; it is the Lord's strength working in and through them.
Now is the time to activate and mobilize this remnant in the following:
1. In intercession, especially imprecatory prayers, through which the Lord God can deal with unrepentant leaders and evil structures.
2. In an evangelistic harvest so that we fulfill our calling to be "fishers of men."
3. In a Biblical (Kingdom) worldview so that we are not focused on leaving the battle, but rather focused on winning it.
4. Into a discovery of the wisdom and strategies of our God so that spiritual and cultural chaos can be overcome.
5. In public policy and godly citizenship so that our society and culture can be salted and lighted.

Our target is the remnant that sees what is really happening in the Body of Christ and in our culture, and is seeking solutions in both the Church and nation based on the revelation of an increasing and victorious Kingdom of God in history.
